Moving After Decades in a Small Crowded House.

After a very long time here, twenty five years, I finally am in a position to be able to afford to move.

Where I am, not only very high cost of living but one of the top housing costs in the country, a down payment of twenty percent is at least one hundred thousand.

I am at 90k, and saving.

I already own a paid off house, but, it's in tear down condition, although contractors seem to think it just needs a makeover, but beyond just cosmetics in at least the kitchen and bath.

I should be able to get 200k for it, I am in a red hot market and the location is ideal, but it's just too small, and no big needed improvements have been done.

I've had contractors out to price work needed to be done (full kitchen rehab and total bathroom), and I would have to move out to have all the work done, and with special needs adult children, I can't just rent an apartment or house for a few months.

So, in addition to my house being in bad condition, the bigger problem is that on a hoarding scale, it's at about a three upstairs and the garage, hoarding scale here, while the living room, kitchen, basement and master bedroom are relatively at one.

So, this little blog is to keep me on track for cleaning out and getting it into "Push Broom Condition".

I see it as six months or so before a new house, so around December, but I want to have it empty as much as possible, all food stuffs and non-perishables used up, any clothes or bed linens not in use or good condition purged, big freezer and fridge emptied, cellar purged down to fixtures, I don't plan on taking any furniture except for my bed frame, and electronics like tvs, computers, and my beloved exercise collection of weights, toys and dvds.

There's a lot of stuff here, and in the next post I am going to break down what my purge goals are.

Wish me luck,

Me.

Small Steps Day One To A Push Broom Clean House

My goals are two fold, to de-clutter and purge, as well as to do a deep clean. And, there's a lot of stuff, it took twenty-five years to fill this house up, it's going to take a bit of time to empty. I've read just about every cleaning and organizing book out there, while I do work at home, I have to actually do work. So I'm loosely following quite a few cleaning queens, the one I have in hand is from the Clean Mama blog and book Simply Clean. Today, my goal is to purge five bags of trash from all over the house, focusing on the kitchen and items from the basement. Cleaning wise, I want to clear off and deep clean the kitchen counters and kitchen table with chairs, while also getting some "real" aka "income producing" work done. And get a work out in, or at least match my step goals. I'll update at the end of the day, or tomorrow. Me.
